Farmer's Market :: Downtown Waxahachie, TX Photography by Kelly Olivares

I was so excited to visit the Farmer's Market last weekend to chat with a few of the vendors for the upcoming Farm to Table Event in Downtown Waxahachie.  I will be visiting a few of their farms and gardens to see all of the vegetables, herbs, and honey being grown for the cozy Farm to Table on the Square dinner.  If you aren't familiar with a Farm to Table dinner, it is hosted by an organization in a town that promotes using local farm produce and products in the area surrounding the town and you have dinner with citizens in the town at a large table of 100 other people.  What is so great about Farm to Table on the Square is the WDMA and Waxahachie Farmer's Market is working together with the City of Waxahachie, Waxahachie High School culinary arts, art department are all coming together to have the event to give back to the high school's culinary arts department from the ticket sales.  They have a wonderful evening planned filled with tasty recipes that will be cooked and served by the high school students culinary department.  The high school's art department is working on a gift for every one to take home.  This is an event you do not want to miss.  You can find out more information on the Farm to Table Facebook Page and you can purchase your tickets on the Eventbrite site.   We hope to see your there and make history at the 1st Annual Farm to Table on the Square.

P.S. Everyone is so excited that we already have a date set for next year as well!

Cheers, KellyO.

Memories by Stephanie Rippe

Did you ever go through the old boxes of photos in your grandparents attic?  Or find yourself staring through pictures from the 1800’s and early 1900’s in awe of the way they lived, knowing that, although they didn’t have electricity or running water readily available to everyone, that somehow, these people spent a small fortune to get their picture taken?

What about – ever find yourself filtering through images of relatives long gone and wonder “who had these pictures” “how cool is it to look at my relatives from 100 years ago”.

What do you think will become of this digital age?  Where do you store your mountains and mountains of digital images?  Facebook?  What happens if Facebook crashes?  What about in a storm what are the things you’ll go to first, your wedding album, pictures of Grandma and Grandpa, your computer?

The only medium we have never, ever had to upgrade from is good ‘ole fashion paper.  It’s been around in some form or fashion since before Christ was born.  What amazes me are all the documents that are still being preserved in archives all over the world, even parchment written on by the Egyptians!

I’m really BIG into my family and making sure that we print those special pictures.  They’re lucky, because they have a professional photographer in the family.  They are always getting professional pictures taken, but even if they didn’t, I would insist upon it!  Why?  Because sometimes you need to capture that one special moment when everyone has come together for a common cause, the good ‘ole family portrait, they traveled from across the country or town or the street.  One of these days, your grandchildren, or great-great grandchildren will be looking at images that you had done and will say “look at your great-great grandmother, wasn’t she a beautiful woman?” and it will drum up all the cool things that people remember about you,

In my father’s study, every wall is covered in pictures.  I love to go in there, he’s framed them all in the same kind of frame so it doesn’t detract from the images.  They are of weddings and birthdays and graduations, of special occasions and awards ceremonies.  Every one of them has a story behind it, and looking at them, you remember the day it was taken and the event that marked the occasionWith that in mind, I set out to create an image of my father that put into perspective his personality and the love of his Memories, the things he surrounds himself daily in his work.  That’s where this image came from.  “Memories”  The other two images are of my Mom and Dad when they were young, before they were married, I walk by them every day in my living room, I smile and I wonder “What was it like to live in that era”.

…….until next time.

It's never too late to learn. By Stephanie Rippe

Kelly and I have been members of the Dallas Professional Photographers Association, Professional Photographers of America and several other professional organizations for years.  The goal of these organizations is to continually teach and train photographers and to help them become better, to learn more about running and business and to keep them up to date on the newest technology.  Really, no different than any other professional organization out there.  Taking pictures is not only a passion for us, it is our profession and we take it seriously.

Kelly and I originally met at one of the schools put on by the Texas Professional Photography association, The TPPA – Texas School of Professional Photography.  We were in the same class and graduated together.  From that point forward, we sought each other out for creative work.  We both ended up on the board of the Dallas Professional Photographers, me as the Director of Education and her as the Director of Membership.

As Director of Education, my job was to come up with a theme, the instructors and all the trappings that come along with putting on a professional school for professional photographers.  The most fun about the job is set and costume design for the models.  I must admit – I have become addicted to themed shoots due to this assignment alone.  And, each year of being on the board and running the DPPA – Little Red Schoolhouse, I sucked Kelly into helping, you put the two of us together, along with some our other creative friends and you never know what you’ll get.  We even built a life sized baby elephant!!

This year, I’ll be attending as a student, no longer on the board, and eager to learn something new without the hard work behind organizing the event.

Below are some links to the last couple we put on and some pictures from the events – enjoy!!

In the Pacific Northwest by Stephanie Rippe

Last year, I went to see my good friend Corinne, a photographer in the Seattle area.  And, proudly I might say an excellent photographer – especially well known in the photography industry, Corinne has put out some very stellar work and is one of Epson’s spokes people.  See the link here to National Geographic’s Joe McNally’s blog to read about the ad and how it came about - scroll down and you’ll see Corinne taking pictures of the girls.  Our week together with hubby’s, dogs and friends was one of the most relaxing weeks of my life.  We enjoyed visiting and creating.  Have you ever had that one moment when you met someone for the first time and you knew you would be soul sisters forever?  Well, that happened to me and Corinne’s childhood friend Joni.  Joni came up to Corinne’s to hang out, and of course, what do 2 photographers want to do with a very sexy blond woman – TAKE PICTURES OF COURSE.  We threw a dress I brought with onto Joni and ran out into the field in front of Corinne’s house – “Joy in the Lord” is a result of that picture.

I’m on my way back today, without the hubby this trip, so me and the girls can explore and create without having to entertain anyone else.  I’m sure we’ll come up with something else to throw Joni in – and I may just have to check a bag.

More pictures to come…..

Texas size Texas Flag :: Waxahachie, Texas Photography

WOW an 8ft by 15ft Texas Flag in our very own Downtown Waxahachie!!!  We had the best time last Saturday painting over some graffiti on the back wall of our studio!  Being a Texan, there's not a better way to cover up graffiti than with our state flag.  Approximately 8 hours, 4 cans of paint, several yards of tape and one ladder went into painting this flag.  We love our State of Texas!

P.S. We heard that guy putting "ACE" on everything has been caught.

A Simple Country Wedding :: Joe + Brittany Photography by Stephanie Rippe

A second marriage for both, Joe and Brittany felt like a simple picnic reception and country wedding at their farm in Valley Mills was the way to go.  No frills, no fuss, just the two in love and their children to act as best man and wedding party.

I must say, that as far as weddings go, this was the most laid back and calm wedding I’ve ever attended or photographed.  It was simple, one photographer.

I put together a quickie video of the day – Brittany and Joe invite you to click and watch and share their happiness.

The bridal portraits were a bit more formal, but still gave you the very essence of Brittany.  From relaxed to elegant we were able to catch exactly what she wanted in a bridal portrait.  Printed nice and large and on display during the wedding it was the perfect WOW moment to the casual affair.
